How to copyright my work?

I've recently finished my first fiction novel and I'm preparing it for publication. I was wondering how I would go about copyrighting my work in the UK? I know that the standard thing to do is to submit a query letter with a synopsis of the book. Is there anything else I need to do? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
