How to re-vamp a relationship?

I have been dating my wonderful boyfriend since April and while we love each other, I have to admit the relationship has gotten boring. lately hes been quiet on the texting/calling front and Ill text but I wont always be the one to text first. He used to send random "i love you" texts but thats kind of hit the brakes. I asked about seeing him this week but he hasnt given me an answer as to what day. I wont ask again because if he wants to see me, he can make plans. And I havn't texted him today either. I figure if I back off a bit hell become more attentive instead of thinking I am a set thing. Is this something that usually happens in relationships? What are some other ways I can maybe bring him to be more attentive?
